Massage Therapy: Your First Visit

The Health Network is recognized as a leader in massage therapy in the London, Ontario, area, providing an array of massage therapy services focused on each person's individual needs and goals. During your first visit with us, you'll be asked to provide a health history that includes prior or current medical conditions as well as your current symptoms. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to fill out your paperwork during this first visit, so plan to arrive early in order to complete the forms before your massage therapy session begins.

Once in the treatment room, your massage therapist will ask you questions about your symptoms and perform an initial assessment to evaluate your muscles and other soft tissues to session is truly customized to meet your needs and your goals.

After the assessment, the therapist will leave the room and provide time for you to undress. You may choose to completely undress or leave your underwear on – whichever is more comfortable for you. Once you're undressed, you'll lie on the padded massage table and cover yourself with a clean drape or sheet and blanket. In a few moments, the therapist will knock on the door to ensure you're ready for your massage therapy to begin.

During your massage, you'll remain covered with the sheet and only the area being treated will be uncovered to respect your modesty and ensure you remain comfortable and relaxed. From time to time during treatment, the therapist will ask about the pressure being exerted. Be sure to let the therapist know if you're feeling any discomfort or if you would like to have more focus placed on a specific spot.

Once your massage is over, the therapist will leave the room while you dress. Before you leave the office, the therapist will discuss your session and provide you with tips to remain flexible and pain-free at home and at work. If this is your first session, remember to relax: While massage therapy may be an unfamiliar experience, the benefits and results can be amazing.
